With pride just around the corner, we will speak to this year’s grand marshals. The female grand marshal is Fran Watson who is currently serving as the president of Houston GLBT Political Caucus. She also serves on the board of Stonewall Law Association of Greater Houston, an association of legal professionals whose objective is to provide an LGBTQ presence in the community while promoting the study of LGBT and HIV law. She serves on the Executive Board of the Houston chapter of New Leaders Council (NLC), a progressive leadership institute that recruits, trains, and promotes innovative young leaders to affect change in their surroundings. The male grand marshal is Brad Odom-Harris. Brad served as the president of Pride in 2007 and 2008. Since then, Brad has continued to stay active in the community, focusing his time and energy on finding solutions to address the issues facing Houston’s gay homeless youth. Brad helped open the SAFE Spot in 2011, a daily drop in shelter for homeless youth. Dena Gray is this year’s pride ally gran marshal. Dena has been a strong and consistent supporter of the LGBT community. In 1991, Dena was diagnosed with HIV. Her engagement with the gay and lesbian community came from a sense of need. As a 21 year old African American heterosexual woman, health resources and a community that understood HIV disease was unavailable. Since that time, Dena has become part of Houston HIV/AIDS community. Dena has served as Director of Volunteer Services and Advocacy for Bering Omega Community Services; Director of Advocacy at People With AIDS Coalition; and Executive Director of Bread of Life.
